  It's the second time I bring an iMac to PC Magicians to upgrade a HDD to SDD (which definitely speeds up your machine).
The service is flawless, perfect, no bad surprises.

We had an issue with the latest upgrade, probably due to some corrupted (or outdated) applications re-installed on the iMac.

At first the team and I thought it could have been a motherboard failure, which would have required a new spare part (which they said they would have installed at cost if we had to order the part).

In the end, they reinstalled the OS (I had a full backup of the files), carried out some tests for a few days and the iMac is now working, without the need of further expenses. I'm about to reinstall applications & files.

PC Magicians are one of the most ethical companies I've ever met. It's such a pleasure to deal with people like them!

This laptop repair Wandsworth job was for screen replacement on a Toshiba Satellite Pro. This laptop repair job was from a regular client in Wandsworth SW18. The laptop was quite old and came with an LCD screen. We offered laptop collection and delivery to the client in Garrat Lane, Wandsworth SW18. The problem was that the laptop needed repair for the dim screen. The dim screen is a sign of a faulty inverter. The old style LCD screens come with an inverter. This particular job from Wandsworth for laptop repair is a perfect example of inverter board failure.

How does the inverter works?

When a computer or a laptop is plugged into the wall, it converts the power outlet’s AC waves into DC. This works well for digital components, such as the motherboard, but it doesn’t work for fluorescent bulbs. The inverter intercepts the DC power, and converts it back to AC power for use by the bulb that lights the screen. The new LED screens do not need an inverter.

We keep common types of inverters and replacement screens and luckily found a similar one in stock. We replaced the inverter and the screen got back to normal brightness.

Laptop repair tips for Wandsworth customers:

When the inverter becomes faulty, the LCD screen will look like as if it is switched off.
If you look at it closely, you’ll see that the display is still working, but is extremely dim.
If you see the above signs, then it is the time for your laptop repair.
Many LCD fluorescent bulbs are built onto a circuit with the inverter, requiring one to be replaced along with the other.
If you are not comfortable dismantling your LCD screen, it’s often more cost effective to replace the whole LCD than to change the LCD inverter unit.
